Joint Committee for Powder Diffraction Studies - The Joint Committee for Powder Diffraction Studies (JCPDS) maintains a database of diffraction patterns, the Powder Diffraction File (PDF), including the d-spacings (related to angle of diffraction) and relative intensities of observable diffraction peaks. Patterns may be experimentally determined, or (preferably) computed based on crystal structure and Bragg's law.
Fresnel diffraction - Fresnel diffraction is the diffraction pattern of an electromagnetic wave obtained a small number of wavelengths away from the diffracting object (often a source or aperture). This is also often called near-field diffraction.
Fraunhofer diffraction - In optics, Fraunhofer diffraction or far-field diffraction is diffraction of light through an aperture for small values of the Fresnel number, F \ll 1. This corresponds to the observation of a source at a large (essentially infinite) distance from the source.
Diffraction grating - In optics, a diffraction grating is a reflecting or transparent substrate whose surface contains fine parallel grooves or rulings that are equally spaced. When light is incident on a diffraction grating, diffractive and mutual interference effects occur, and light is reflected or transmitted in discrete directions, called orders.
