Fossil fuel - Fossil fuels, also known as mineral fuels, are hydrocarbon-containing natural resources such as coal, petroleum and natural gas. The utilization of fossil fuels has fueled industrial development and largely supplanted water driven mills, as well as the combustion of wood or peat ...

Liquid fuels - Liquid fuels are those combustible or energy-generating molecules which can be harnessed to create mechanical energy, usually producing kinetic energy, and which also must take the shape of their container. Most liquid fuels in widespread use are or are dervied from fossil fuels; however, there are several types, such as hydrogen fuel (for autmotive use), that are also categorized as liquid fuels.

Fossil fuel power plant - A fossil fuel power plant (also known as thermal power plant in Asia, or power station in the UK) is an energy conversion center designed on a large scale for continuous operation. Just as a battery converts relatively small amounts of chemical energy into electricity for temporary or intermittent use, the fossil fuel power plant converts the energy stored in fossil fuels such as coal, oil, or natural gas successively into thermal energy, mechanical energy, and finally electric energy for continuous use and distribution across a wide geographic area.

Petrochemical - A petrochemical is any chemical derived from fossil fuels. These include purified fossil fuels such as methane, propane, butane, gasoline, kerosene, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, or fuel oil, and also include many agricultural chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, and other items such as plastics, asphalt and synthetic fibers.
