Effective input noise temperature - In telecommunications, effective input noise temperature is the source noise temperature in a two-port network or amplifier that will result in the same output noise power, when connected to a noise-free network or amplifier, as that of the actual network or amplifier connected to a noise-free source. If ...

Brownian motor - Brownian motors are nano-scale or molecular devices by which thermally activated processes (chemical reactions) are controlled and used to generate directed motion in space and to do mechanical or electrical work. These tiny engines operate in an environment where viscosity dominates inertia, and where thermal noise makes moving in a specific direction as difficult as walking in a hurricane: the forces impelling these motors in the desired direction are minuscule in comparison with the random forces exerted by the environment.

Microphonics - Microphonics describes the phenomenon where certain components in electronic devices transform mechanical vibrations into an undesired electrical signal (noise). The term is derived by analogy to real microphones where that behavior is intended rather than inadvertent.

Mechanical floor - A mechanical floor, mechanical penthouse, or mechanical level is a floor of a high-rise building that is dedicated to mechanical and electronics equipment. "Mechanical" is the most commonly-used term, but words such as utility, technical, service, and plant are also used.
